Lightload Towels
Approx. 1¾" diameter x ¼" thick packaged. Review ripped from Amazon.com...
"The Lightload Towels are an excellent addition to your backpack or survival kit. They are extremely compact and do not take up any room in your gear. I found it to be very durable despite some of the other reviews who state that they are not much better than a regular paper towel. It is much more durable than a paper towel and it is very absorbent. I do not recommend putting them in a washing machine considering they are so inexpensive there is no reason to have to wash them.
Besides being a towel they have other useful purposes as well such as fire tinder, water filter, bandage, and good to clean eating utensils and pans. Overall, a great product that should be a part of your gear."
Cost: less than $1 each

Mecco's SureStart Firelighting Squares
Compressed wood chip and wax based squares. Burns about 8-12 minutes even when wet.
Individual squares are approx. 1½" x 1½" and ½" thick.
Kind of a "no brainer" in my opinion. I picked up a box of 24 squares for less than $3. I'll have a picture to post the next time I get my camera out. Until then, I'll leave you with a picture inspired by my dad.
Cost: $3ish/box of 24

Here's a picture of those...
A couple squares shown with a box (no idea where I got) that holds two squares. You don't have to worry about keeping them totally waterproof. They will light and burn when wet. I tested that and it's true. I held one under the water faucet for a few seconds and lit it. Note that I did not soak it for hours, but I did get it completely wet.
These are a lot easier than using a hacksaw to "form" chunks of firelogs to fit in small ziploc baggies. And they are odorless unlike firelogs.
I'm leaving the "crabby old man kitteh" picture. Simply because it actually does remind me of my dad telling me a story. The same story for the eleventy bazillionith time.

Katadyn Micropur Purific tablets
We all know about water purification products. And we all know about tablets. Let me tell you why I think Katadyn Purific tablets are the most badassist...
1. Effective against viruses bacteria Giardia and Cryptosporidium. A lot of tablets aren't.
B. Shelf Life: Infinity. Forever. And that's a mighty long time. Never can remember what movie that quote is from.
Cost: $10/30 tablets

Sillcock keys
These were mentioned on my BOB page. I think they are important enough to warrant being mentioned again. What the hell is a "sillcock key" you ax? As stated before:
"You know those water spigots outside of most every grocery store, convenience store,
or municipal building? The spigots with no handles that you can't turn on? Yeah. A sillcock key turns those on. Free waters! Woot!"
You can find them in the plumbing section of any reputable hardware store. Buy all they have. Give some to your friends.
Cost: I've seen them from $3.29 to $6.99

Pill bottles
All shapes and sizes.
The cheapest, most convenient, versatile storage containers ever. Period.
Hit your local mom n' pop drug store and ax them if they have any pill bottles for sale. Any shape or size, but the large 60 dram bottles (about 6" long and a tad over 1¾" in diameter) are the real prize. Sometimes they won't even charge you. Even if you buy them on-line, you can find the large 60 dram bottles for about 25¢ each. Suck it, Tupperware!
Cost: free to 25¢ each

NiteIze SpotLit
Hat tip to my bff Wedge Rock for finding these.
Great idea. Would be a great marker to have on your backpack if you have to walk home in the dark. Or to mark your camp if you have to hunt firewood at night.
Link to their website: http://www.niteize.com/
Cost: $7ish depending on where you get it.

Baking Soda
Stock it in your BOB, BIL, BOL. It's one of those items that just make sense due to the four bazillion uses. And at about 60¢/box...why don't you stock it?
Toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, cleaner, to name a few.
And you're sitting there going "and this, and this, and this..."
Yeah. That's what I'm saying. It has so many uses and is so cheap, why not keep a dozen boxes on hand?
Cost: 33¢ and up depending on box size
